Alive. Sort of.

Hi friends!

Just wanted to reach out to say that we are, in fact, alive. I’m just a little sleepless and a little braindead and a whole lot busy changing diapers and bathing babies. I am working on writing out Samuel’s birth story, which I plan to share here, as well as a raving review about my new babywearing love in life: my ring sling from Bibetts! Seriously, all you need to know right now is one thing: worth every penny. But more on that later!

If you pray for us, please pray for rest, strength, and normalizing postpartum hormones. 😉

More from us soon!

This time last year, I was desperately waiting for Rosie to make her appearance- today was her due date! Little lady, thank you for waiting 12 more days to be fully baked before you were born, and for sanctifying your impatient Mama. 😉

This time four years ago, I gained certainty that I was a Child of God.

When I think of where I was just over four years ago, I can’t begin to understand how I could be where I am today- a wife to a sweet man, and a Mama to an almost-one-year-old girl and to an almost-here baby boy. It is a miracle that “because of His compassion we are not consumed,” but what’s just as unbelievable is our “adoption as sons” and the overwhelming Fatherliness of God. He gives good gifts to His children.

His Glory. I can’t understand how my good is for His glory- but I’m overwhelmingly thankful He made it so.

Last year I posted my testimony, and I’ve now included it as a page on my blog. I hope to be less about me and more about Him in the coming days, but I also want to share what God has done!

Happy January 16th! ❤

This is the season that calls us to remember all we have to be thankful for. There is something magical about leaves changing colors, the sun setting earlier, and a cool breeze circling your nose that really does make these coming months the most wonderful time of the year.

The Lord has been specifically teaching me over the last few weeks what the words joy and thankfulness really mean. If you’re struggling for something to read in the Scriptures, or have struggled with having joy in your season of life, I would encourage you to do a study on these words! Grab a concordance and look up every verse they are in. I have found that they are almost always found hand-in-hand with one another, as well as words like: singing, dancing, shouting, steadfast love, and best of all… the Presence of God. When I invite him into my home, into my day-to-day life, He brings joy with Him. I can’t just “sense” Him; I have to dwell on His word, His promises, and above all remember to thank Him for all He has done. And He has given so, so much to be thankful for!

Happy Fall, from our family to yours!

“But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise.” -Psalm 79:13

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the work of your hands I sing for joy.” -Psalm 92:1-4

“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” -Isaiah 55:12

“And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy!”
-Psalm 107:22

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His steadfast love endures forever!” -Psalm 107:1

“Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” -Psalm 30:4-5

Sister, Sister [13 week update]

I know I’m not the only one singing that song in my head when you read the post title… Come on, 90’s lovers!

Anyways, this post is not about Tia and Tamera. Though, that might be a fun post. Anyway, this is about my sister and I, who are pregnant at the same time and are due two weeks apart! Meeeep! Yeah. I know. So fun. We took our first tummy picture together this weekend when we went to visit- next one most likely to occur on Thanksgiving.

What’s more crazy about this scenario? The fact that we are 17 years apart in age, or the fact that this is her 9th baby and this is my 2nd?! Here, I am 13 weeks along and she is about 15 weeks.

After our sonogram I mentioned last week, my estimated due date is March 27th! However, considering Rosebud was born 2 weeks past her due date, let’s all just plan for an early April baby, kay? Kay. 🙂

I also want to say thank you to everyone for your encouraging comments- especially those with babes close together. I’m excited for Rosebud and #2 to be buddies and grow up together! Please keep your comments and emails coming. I enjoy reading them so much.

Happy 7 Months, Rose.

Seven months ago, we were spending our first precious day with you. You are a sweet little soul that has brought so much joy and laughter to our family.

Over the last month or so you have been trying to crawl, and you even pulled up in your crib on your knees. That was Daddy’s cue to lower your mattress. 😉 I think you could crawl perfectly this second if you wanted to, but you prefer to go a short way, lie down, and reeeaaach for whatever it is you are trying to get to. It makes me laugh so much.

We took you on a trip to San Antonio to see your Uncle Aaron graduate from U.S. Air Force basic training. You had a fun trip and got to tell your Granny the exciting news- that you’re going to be a big sister! We also took you on the Riverwalk one evening. You did so great as a little traveler!

You are eating solid foods regularly now (pureed, of course!), and you’ve learned to take a bottle. You have rejected a bottle since you were about a month old, but all of the sudden you decided you like it and you take one before you go down for naps and bed time. 🙂

looking up at Daddy 🙂

This last month was a tough one, but God has been good to all of us, Rosebud. He’s taught me how to be more patient and trust Him. He’s taught you how to sleep and take a bottle. 🙂 And he’s taught Daddy how to take care of our house full of girls! 🙂

You really have the sweetest countenance. You love to play with Mama and Daddy. When we duck under your high chair tray, you lean back and look under it for us and laugh. When Mama hides behind Daddy to jump out and play “Peek-a-boo,” you grab Daddy’s shoulder and try to look around him and see where Mama went! We love watching you learn new things. At least once a day one of us will stop whatever we are doing or saying just to say, “Man, I love that little girl.”

We truly love you with a deep, fierce, sincere love that we can feel from the tips of our toes to the tops of our heads. You’re our little girl, forever and always.

Happy 7 month birthday, Rosebud. ❤

The Cloth Diaper Diaries [#2]

Long time, no see! We’re in the middle of moving, so of course things are crazy. But! Here I am to follow up on my post from a couple weeks ago when we started using our new (to us) cloth diapers. I posted right after I put Rosebud to bed in a prefold (yes, like the old-school cloth prefold diapers!) and Thirsties waterproof cover, and fully anticipated a long night of wet diapers, PJ’s, and sheets.

But, much to our surprise…. success!! I couldn’t believe it! No leaks, no wet sheets, nada. She did wake up a couple times throughout the night, but that is normal. 😉

Since then, we’ve changed diapers a LOT. Like, every 1-3 hours. After much practice, we have finally figured out how to put the prefolds and covers on her comfortably. For the first several days I had a hard time keeping them from bunching up. Rose was obviously uncomfortable. Like I said, this is all trial and error!

When I purchased our first lot of dipes, I bought them from two different ladies who were de-stashing and selling their randoms on Craigslist. I was planning to only use prefolds and covers, but somehow I came home with some diapers I had never seen before. Thankfully, I came across THIS incredible post, that went over every different type of diaper you can try, and she wrote reviews on them all. I’m so glad someone has done this, because it was so helpful! After I watched her videos, I realized the diapers I had purchased but didn’t recognize were All-in-Two’s, or hybrid diapers (basically a soft cover with a snap-in insert).  So, I thought we could give those a go!

Turns out, they’re my favorite. Absolute favorite! It also turns out… they’re expensive. Go figure! Somehow I managed to score these babies for not-a-lot-a-dollas.

Since I posted our first night of CD-ing, we’ve also purchased some Sunbaby Pocket Diapers. I decided I wanted to give them a try, due to the aforementioned prefold-crotch-bunching. (I made that term up. You like it?) I honestly wasn’t sure about them (because I wasn’t sure about stuffing/unstuffing them when they were dirty), but they’ve turned out to be GREAT! My second fave, right under the AI2’s. Also, brand new Sunbaby’s are very affordable. We bought ours second hand, of course. 😉

So, bottom line (hehe), I’d say cloth diapering is going well so far! I’m still always on the lookout for good deals, hoping to steadily build a decent stash. It’s not as bad as I thought it might be- cleaning up poo, washing dirty diapers, touching soiled cloth. I actually really enjoy knowing that we’re saving money in the long run and we’re keeping as many chemicals off baby Rosebud as we can.

Any other cloth diapering Mamas out there have any advice? What’s your favorite brand/type of dipe? Let me know in the comments!

Love, H

Dear Rosebud,

IMG_2297This week you are 16 weeks old. You have taught me more in these last four months than any person has taught me in my entire life. Without you I would not know this depth of love, this height of awe, or this weight of responsibility.

Realizing your life depends on mine gives me goosebumps. I’ve never been a selfless person, but with you I have no choice- I can’t help but put you first. I’ve never been a truly loving person, but with you I can’t help it- I would give my life for yours with no hesitation. I’ve never been a morning person- but with you, I definitely have no choice. 😉 It is my joy to wake up to your smiles and babbles.

To think that you are my child. My little lamb. My charge.

To think that I am God’s child. His little lamb. His charge. To think that he loves me with this same immense love I have for you, and beyond even that? I can’t, almost don’t, believe it. But I have to.

You’ll never fully understand this love, but you’ll enjoy it and return it the best you know how. To me and to God. And a little while from now, if and when the Lord brings you a little life of your own, you’ll get this same glimpse of Heaven I’m getting right now.

But right now, you’re mine to love. Mine and your Daddy’s. Also, I have to tell you how cute your Daddy is. He loves you. He calls you “Baybeh” and likes to make you”fly” like an airplane. You love it and it gives me a heart attack. Daddy also lays in your play-gym with you and reads you stories from the Bible. You smile at him a lot.

This month you’ve had lots of adventures! A trip to Granny’s house (you just started teething and want to chew on everything), your first trip to the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival

IMG_2252(you screamed), your first time to reach for something, your first time to swing outside (which you seemed to like :)), your first time to grab your toes. We celebrated Daddy’s birthday and you even went to your first garage sale. 🙂 We’ve also had a couple “play-dates” with friends you’ve had since you were all in your Mommies’ tummies. About a week ago your Nana and Pa came back home from Romania, and to complete your fourth month of life, your Aunt Breesey and Uncle Kendall came to stay with us for a few days before they move to the Amazon to be missionaries. You have lots of missionary family, ya know.

You certainly are one loved little girl. We adore each precious minute we get with you.

Happy 4 month birthday, Rosebud.
