Alive. Sort of.

Hi friends!

Just wanted to reach out to say that we are, in fact, alive. I’m just a little sleepless and a little braindead and a whole lot busy changing diapers and bathing babies. I am working on writing out Samuel’s birth story, which I plan to share here, as well as a raving review about my new babywearing love in life: my ring sling from Bibetts! Seriously, all you need to know right now is one thing: worth every penny. But more on that later!

If you pray for us, please pray for rest, strength, and normalizing postpartum hormones. πŸ˜‰

More from us soon!

Almost to Due Date!

39 weeks, 3 days.

Can you say, “ready”?

In the last three weeks, a combination of motherly nesting instincts and a bite in the butt from the spring cleaning bug has sent me into high gear. I have scrubbed all our floors and baseboards (the whole house is ugly tile:)), cleaned our tiny bathroom, washed baby clothes, washed comforters, bought new sheets, changed out curtains, rearranged furniture, bought new furniture, gutted a dresser and turned it into extra storage for linens and towels (yeah, regretted moving that thing by myself later), hung things on the walls in Rosie’s room, cooked and frozen lots of THM muffins and meals for after baby Samuel is born, and heck, I even cleaned the vacuum. What newborn doesn’t love a clean vacuum?!

I’ve felt contractions on and off for the last few weeks, but nothing that sticks around for more than an hour or so. Feeling lots of low pressure, too. Hopefully this is all good pre-labor work and it will mean a smooth, quick birth. πŸ™‚ But, we’ll see… reminding myself to trust the Lord in whatever happens…

The hardest part about the end of this pregnancy has been hip pain. Oh, the hip pain! Thankfully, visits to see our dear family friend who is a Chiropractor have helped so much. It was getting so bad I felt like I couldn’t walk or pick Rosie up anymore. Now… well, I just waddle pretty bad. πŸ™‚

My older sister had my sweet baby niece a few days ago! It was the second birth I’ve had the honor of being present for, and it was such an awesome experience. She came so, so quick! I can’t wait to read Bambi’s side of the story, because watching it was pretty stinking amazing.

In these last weeks, I’ve pretty much resigned myself to my house. Even a short trip to the grocery store wears me out, and I end up leaning on the grocery cart to get myself out the door and back to the car. Haha. If we go way overdue, I plan to rent Frozen and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire when we get desperate for something to occupy our time while we wait. πŸ™‚

If you’re praying for me, I sincerely appreciate it. Please, pray that…

-I am patient and keep a good attitude until “Labor Day” arrives, Β and that I keep my mind “stayed on Him” (Isaiah 26:3).

-That I don’t worry about Rosie, or feel sad for leaving her while we go to the birth center. She is my sweet little buddy, and I hate to leave her for any amount of time! Pray she is calm and happy and manageable for whomever ends up here to watch her, and is happy to have her “Bubba” come home!

-That labor is smooth, my mind is still “stayed on Him”, and for productive, efficient contractions that lead to a quick birth of a healthy baby!
Thank you to everyone who has been checking on us and taking care of us. We are so excited to become a family of four, and can’t wait to meet this sweet little boy! Hoping to post a birth announcement soon… (And remembering that it wasn’t long ago that my sister posted the same thing…)

Waiting,
H

34 week bump

20140214-093409.jpg

34 weeks.

My first pregnancy, I had a new bump picture almost every week. These have been few and far between… because, well, the times when I get dressed and look decent enough for a photo op are rare. πŸ˜‰

In the last week or so, I have reached the “I am so done.” phase. I try so hard not to complain, but every once in a while it kind of builds up and overflows. :/ My husband is so sweet and encouraging, and lately has kept me laughing so much I have hardly had time to be too grumpy. πŸ˜‰ For the first time my left hip is kind of constantly hurting, which makes me waddle and moan like an old woman. Or a whale. Yeah, whale sounds more like it. πŸ˜‰Β I think it is because this baby is so low! Rosie was always up in my ribs, but not this little boy. He’s getting ready to make his entrance!

Sidenote: Rosie has picked up on what makes Mama moan and grunt… So, now when I drop something on the floor or grab the hard-to-open jar of coconut oil, she usually beats me to the “urrghhhhh!” noises. πŸ˜‰ It is hilarious and embarrassing. What am I teaching this girl?!

Last night, I drank coffee on our drive home from visiting in-laws in a desperate attempt to stay awake/sane. (Edit: haha, it sounds like I meant sane from visiting in-laws. I meant from the long drive with a sick, fussy babe πŸ˜‰ For the record, I have wonderful in-laws!) I’ve not had coffee much recently, and especially not in the evening. The result was me up late cleaning our disastrous kitchen and thinking about the last 6ish weeks of pregnancy ahead. I determined, in my over-enthusiastic state, to do my best to make these last few weeks good. I am tempted to throw myself headlong into a pit of despair. Really, I am. But who wants to live with that person for over a month? Not me, and not my family.

Life is about to change in a big way. I am enjoying every family Walmart trip, every dinner, every night of (mostly) uninterrupted sleep, and every impromptu walk around Cabela’s while it’s just the three of us. Soon, we will be four and things will not be as easy or simple. But who ever wanted easy, anyway? πŸ™‚ Our lives are about to grow, our love about to multiply, and our purpose deepen. Samuel, baby, Mama can’t wait to hold you.Β

Looking forward,
H.

Black Friday Fun

Not many people would put the words “Black Friday” and “fun” in the same category, but my family definitely does.

You see, it’s tradition. Every year, my Mom, Aunts, cousins, sister, nieces and I go shopping on the Friday after Thanksgiving. However, we are not “door busters.” We all meet in one central location, usually Target, and start our day around 9am, after most of the crazies serious shoppers have done their rounds and gone home. We meander through the store, sipping our Starbucks lattes and occasionally picking up a deal or two. Mostly, we’re just making memories.

I don’t remember when my nieces (ages 17 & 18) and I started buying Starbucks drinks every year, but somehow there was once a joke made of a barista flirting with me while we ordered our coffee. I don’t even remember if that actually happened or not, but now that I’m the married old lady with a baby and a prego belly, it’s fun to point those jokes at them quietly as soon as we’re out of earshot of the coffee bar. πŸ˜‰

20131127-163519.jpg

Every year someone usually has a baby with them. Two years ago, we teased my cousin for carrying meatballs around in her purse. πŸ™‚ She had just found out she was pregnant and told us all at Thanksgiving. (Any woman who’s ever been pregnant knows the importance of protein when you’re nauseous all day!) Last year, we had a 9 month old, a 4 month old, and a 2 month old with us, and I was the pregnant one! This year is my turn to have the baby to carry around, and my sister and I both get to be the preggie-pies. πŸ™‚

And of course, there is the memory that will live on for decades (and what I really wish I had a photo of): the memory of the time my Grandma tried to take a sip of her Dr Pepper, and instead stuck the straw straight up her nose. Of course, every year we all do the same with our Target snack bar sodas and laugh as if its the first time it happened. People probably whisper about us and give us all kinds of looks, but we never notice. πŸ˜‰

My favorite holiday has always been Thanksgiving, which in my mind includes Black Friday. Two days in a row spent with the dearest friends I’ll ever have: my family. I may not come home with a giant TV or a trunk full of goodies, but my heart is filled to the brim every year, and I couldn’t ask for more!

Do you go shopping on Black Friday? What traditions do you have with your family?

Happy Thanksgiving (and Black Friday), y’all. πŸ™‚
Love,
H

Thankfulness.

This is the season that calls us to remember all we have to be thankful for. There is something magical about leaves changing colors, the sun setting earlier, and a cool breeze circling your nose that really does make these coming months the most wonderful time of the year.

The Lord has been specifically teaching me over the last few weeks what the words joy and thankfulness really mean. If you’re struggling for something to read in the Scriptures, or have struggled with having joy in your season of life, I would encourage you to do a study on these words! Grab a concordance and look up every verse they are in. I have found that they are almost always found hand-in-hand with one another, as well as words like: singing, dancing, shouting, steadfast love, and best of all… the Presence of God. When I invite him into my home, into my day-to-day life, He brings joy with Him. I can’t just “sense” Him; I have to dwell on His word, His promises, and above all remember to thank Him for all He has done. And He has given so, so much to be thankful for!

Happy Fall, from our family to yours!

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. New Project: Rosebud’s Blooms [Discount alert!]

I’ve always had a very particular taste in clothes, accessories, etc, and my daughter has not escaped my style. πŸ™‚ Rosebud’s “take-home” outfit from the birth center was nothing pink- at all. She wore a grey, ruffled dress with crochet detail, black leggings, a red coat and socks with red bows. Only after we had gotten her dressed did I realize this was not a typical baby-girl-going-home outfit. It was very much my style, and (I thought) she looked adorable! πŸ˜‰

All that to say, a few weeks ago I decided I really wanted some new headbands for little Rosebud. Inspired by the coming seasons (Fall and Winter are my FAVORITE!), I searched in stores for what I had in mind, but couldn’t find anything close to what I wanted. So, I decided to take it upon myself to create exactly what I wanted- simple, feminine, seasonal, and unique.Β Once I got started, I. couldn’t .stop. I have had so much fun creating these little guys, playing with different color combinations and fabrics, and matching them up with outfits in Rosebud’s closet.

All my fun led to an idea- I could share these with y’all! So, I am excited to announce that I have opened an Etsy shop called “Rosebud’s Blooms.” (Creative, I know. ;)) I’ve listed a few Fall and Winter inspired pieces, with more to be added soon. [I’m going to be really honest here and say that I’m SUPER nervous about this! I always get embarrassed to show anything I make to the general public. Wah! Oh well, here goes nothing. :)]

To kick-start the shop, I am giving my blogosphere friends a 30% discount until Friday!Β Use the code ROSEBUDS30 on any headband or clip and get the discounted price. πŸ™‚

Check back for new headbands, giveaways, and more discounts! Let me know what you think- but be nice. πŸ˜‰ Don’t hurt my fragile little soul! (Just kidding. Sort of.)

H

Our Story {And an Announcement!}

I’ve been asked a couple times about my and Kip’s “timeline” of how we met, started dating, got married, had a baby, etc. I posted the semi-short version here, and we also have something to add to our major milestones!

About this time two years ago, I met a guy at a sand volleyball game. I had recently come home from a 6 week stay in Romania, and also happened to be ending a year of “no dating” that I had felt convicted to take. My roommate at the time jokingly asked me, “So, now that your year is up, are you going to run out and snatch a guy?!” We laughed and I emphatically said, “No!” I was in no hurry, though something in me sensed that big changes were coming… I just didn’t know what changes those were.

I continued to run into this guy at a couple more sand volleyball games throughout the Summer, and once he tried to impress me by almost throwing me into a swimming pool and doing handstand push-ups. It worked.

I came home all giddy, but was so embarrassed at how excited I was about someone I hardly knew. This was very unlike me. Not long after that, my excitement grew (and was validated haha) because this guy ASKED ME ON A DATE! …right after he told me how he had an accident on his motorcycle that day. I think he was trying to impress me… again. Obviously it worked again because I agreed to go out with him. I only requested that we not take said motorcycle on this date. πŸ™‚

This is how we celebrated the 1 year anniversary of our first date and 6 month wedding anniversary last year. Just a few months pregnant with Rosebud…. πŸ™‚

Two years ago this weekend, I went on my last first date. It was the most special, thoughtful date I could have imagined. The Denton Square (my favorite place), Recycled bookstore, ice cream, and good, no-nonsense discussion about The Lord, ourselves, our views, our dreams. Β We agreed to keep getting to know one another as friends for another month or so, and if we did decide to date we would do so for 6 months and then evaluate where the relationship was going. “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but the Lord determines his steps…”

Dating ❀

The night Kip proposed. πŸ™‚

Well, we fell in love. Fast. A week later we were dating, a month later “I love you’s” were exchanged (and meant), and six months from our first date we were married. It was a whirlwind, and it was and still is wonderful. I have this man and know I can count on him for all my days.

We made a big decision shortly after we were married. We knew we wanted a family together, and we wanted to believe the Lord that we can trust Him and that “…like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.” Β (Proverbs 127:3-5) I wouldn’t say we wereΒ trying, but we wereΒ waiting, trusting, and resting. In May of 2012, we discovered we were pregnant with our little Rosebud.Β We were ecstatic, thankful, and eventually impatient. πŸ™‚ We couldn’t wait for our little girl to be in our arms.

0-4

From motorcycle rides around the square to nursing babies in the car at weddings…

Now we have this wonderful seven-month-old girl, full of personality and smiles for everyone. She tries to crawl, chews on anything you give her, and has the funniest, sweetest laugh. We love her to pieces and can’t imagine our world without her. We may not be able to take many vacations, buy new furniture, or purchase our first home early in our marriage. But, we’ve found tremendous wealth in her love, and we’ve seen that truly, “children are a heritage from the Lord.” Funny… when you lose your life, you seem to find it.

Well, here we are a year and a half into our marriage, and we have a new milestone to add. I’ll just leave you with this picture of our little lovebug. She wanted to be the one to tell you. πŸ™‚
